There is a new exciting experience for some of the 7th and 8th Graders at Elkhart Middle School.  This year the students have the opportunity to participate in an, “Exploration Class.”  The course includes exposure to many elective offerings with the Acellus program, a computer based curriculum.  The Acellus program is currently offering the following courses to the 7th and 8th Graders of Elkhart Middle School: French, Spanish and German languages, Elementary Engineering, Agriculture, College and Career Readiness, English as a Second Language, Electrical Technology, HVAC and Computer Coding just to name a few.  The students are definitely getting exposure to courses that have been out of reach for the students, in this area, until now with the assistance of the Acellus program.  Students are not only involved with these courses on an individual basis, but are also getting the opportunity to get out of the brick and mortar classroom and into the community for extended knowledge.  Last week the students visited the Morton County Courthouse, where the students witnessed a Morton County Commissioners meeting, were given descriptions of duties and responsibilities from all of the Morton County head of departments and saw many aspects of the Morton County Jail.  On Monday, September 23rd, during the, "Exploration Night," the parents were invited to see their student in action with the Acellus courses and share with their parents the topics that their courses are covering.  There was a fantastic turn out for the, "Exploration Night."  The students made a great effort to describe their courses and share with the parents a portion of a lesson.  Future plans of the class include many more opportunities to see the community through a different lens than the students have ever witnessed before.  Morton County is a flourishing environment for young people to learn from and many community people to share their wisdom.
