USD 218 Migrant Program

The Migrant Education Program works to ensure that migrant children fully benefit from the same free public education provided to other children. This program offers services to help reduce the educational disruptions and other problems that result from repeated moves.

How does my child qualify?

To be eligible for this opportunity, you (parent) must have moved to a new community within the past three years and have worked or are working at an agricultural job. This may include:

  • Planting, cultivating, or harvesting seasonal crops
  • Packing, processing, or transporting food products
  • Livestock or ranching
  • Nursery or grain elevator work

Note : Landscaping does not qualify

How can I help my child be successful?

  • Make your children’s education your priority and theirs. Make sure the school knows you value your children’s education.
  • Ask for programs and any options available that can enhance your child’s education and to accrue credits so that he/she can graduate on time.
  • Contact the school and ask about your child’s progress.
  • Support your child and show them that you are interested in his/her education.
  • Contact the school to discuss, in advance, options for accommodating only the most essential required absences.
