Background History
I have quite an eclectic background which I believe lends itself very well to this job.
1974 Graduated Kansas State University - Bachelor of Science in Home Economics
1994 Graduated Oklahoma Panhandle State University - Bachelor of Arts in Music Education
ESL Endorsement
Gifted Endorsement - Only lack a few hours to complete.
After graduating from KSU in 1974 I worked for the Texas State Department of Human Resources in the Child Abuse/Neglect division as an investigative and ongoing caseworker. Later I became the liaison worker between the Texas State Department of Human Resources and Texas Panhandle Community Action Corporation. Texas Panhandle Community Action Corporation was the umbrella agency for a shelter for abused and neglected children from the ages 6 - 18 years. After completion of an exam I filled the position of director of the shelter.
I spent a few years in insurance sales during which time I met my charming husband Phil. We have been blessed with two wonderful children. Our oldest son Ty works in the financial services industry for Coverity in San Francisco, CA. Our youngest son Zac is a landscape design student at CSU in Ft. Collins, CO.
This is my seventh year of teaching. My first teaching position was teaching vocal music grades K-12 in Keyes, OK. I was academic coordinator for 21st Century for one year. This is my fifth year teaching ESL in the Elkhart Middle School. I love this job and am continually looking for ways to improve the program and be a very pro-active teacher in every way. It is truly a blessing to be able to share with these students. I learn much from them each day.
Swanson, who spent his entire career working at Raytheon wrote the often used "Swanson's Unwritten Rules of Management." From this list I would like to close with one of his 31 rules. "A person who is nice to you but rude to the waiter is not a nice person." This rule never fails.
