I grew up in River Rouge, a suburb of Detroit, MI. I received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Wayne State University (Detroit) in 1972. I later earned my Master of Music Education in Instrumental Education from Wichita State University in 1989. I began my teaching career in Michigan as a band director for 8 years teaching in Carsonville and Dearborn. I moved to Elkhart in 1981, taught band here for 17 years before taking the position of Special Projects Coordinator. I have taught elementary music since 2003. I truly enjoy working with the young students at Elkhart Grade School. Their energy and attitude is contagious.
Classroom Expectations:
Students are encouraged to sing and participate in music room activities. Two major programs are presented each year; a winter concert and a spring concert. Students in grades 2-4 may showcase their individual talent during Talent Days. This activity allows students to perform a musical skill (piano, dance, guitar, vocal solo/small groups, etc) that we may not see or do in the regular classroom. Grades 3-4 learn to play the recorder during the second semester of the school year. Following and reading music are taught at all grade levels. Instrument families are explored throughout the school year.
