DINNER WITH THE BOSS--News 2010

Manners and etiquette are important for success in today’s world. Families today often eat in front of the TV and at various times, so teaching table manners is difficult. Knowing how to introduce oneself and carry on conversation is another at-risk skill for society using brief, to-the-point text messages and e-mail. Life Adjustments students recently practiced etiquette skills at Dinner with the Boss in the commons area of the high school. Employers from the community graciously accepted invitations to lunch to help the students practice.
The Healthy Cuisine class, formerly Gourmet Cooking, prepared the meal, a gourmet picnic. The students prepared Cheeseburger Meatloaf, Texas Two-Step Slaw, Parmesan Oven Potato Chunks with Ketchup, Sesame Seed Pan Rolls with Honey Butter, and Chocolate Chip Banana Tart. They worked as a team to compile, cook, and serve the food. Problem solving, decision-making, planning and organizing, and teamwork are important skills students practice in class while enjoying the opportunity to cook and taste what they cook.
