Josielyn A. Participates in State Honor Band
March 03, 2010
In January, Josielyn A. traveled to Salina, KS to audition for the KMEA 1234A State-Wide Festival Band. Two days after her audition, she became the first student from Elkhart High School to be selected to this honor. Josielyn was chosen as the third chair bass clarinet in this band. The day after the High Plains League Music Festival, Josielyn traveled, along with the USD #218 music teachers, to Wichita to participate in the KMEA Festival. The State-Wide band spent Thursday afternoon, all day Friday and Saturday morning rehearsing extremely difficult pieces they would perform in a culminating finale performance Saturday afternoon. Over 17 hours of rehearsal time was put in by the over 150 piece band. The guest conductor of this band was Dr. Dennis Fisher from the University of North Texas in Denton. Josielyn learned new things over a short amount of time, but most importantly got to share an amazing musical experience and her love for music with hundreds of others.
