Middle School Holds Spelling Bee
February 17, 2010
Elkhart Middle School held their annual all-school spelling bee on Wednesday, February 10. The top five spellers from each grade participated for cash prizes sponsored by STUCO. Guest judges were EHS students Rowdie P. and Adrian C. who were both county bee winners as sixth graders at EMS.
Aubrianna L., a seventh grader at EMS, placed first winning $50. Her winning words were FAHRENHEIT and PASTEURIZE. Winning second place with a prize of $40 was fifth grader, Tai B.. She spelled the words DEJECTED, AMBIVALENT, and VERNACULAR correctly to win her prize! Sixth grader, Eduardo S., took home $30 with his third place win. The words SPECTRUM, DISCIPLINE and MEDIOCRE earned him his cash. Although eighth grader, Brendon C., nearly won each round, he ended up placing fourth and winning $20. His winning word was MANICURE. Also giving her peers some tough competition was sixth grader Grace H. Throughout the day she spelled words such as FATIGUE, IGNEOUS, and CHRONIC correctly. However, the words ENTHUSIASM and ODYSSEY were the words that helped her take home her $10 prize.
The Morton County Spelling Bee will be held here in Elkhart this year on Thursday, February 18. It will begin at 7 P.M. in the auditorium. Come out and support our spellers!
