8th Lady Cats dominated Sublette January 7th on the Cats court. The Cats attacked the first quarter shutting Sublette out 20-0. The remaining quarters the team worked on slowing down and running offenses with reversals and mentally taking care of the ball. Lady Cats put the game away 45-9. The team did a great job overall with free throws. Ten were shot and only two missed. Addie L. was leading scorer with 23. Victoria F. followed with 7, Brynn G. hooped up 6, Taylor C. added 4, Bianca R. and Kacee H. each added 2, and Audrey M. finished with one. On Monday the 11th the team traveled to Leoti. The Lady Cats had a challenge of great surprise. The Indians ran the floor and had a three point shooter. The girls had to mentally pull themselves together for they have not had this kind of pressure from defense. The first quarter was exciting with the Cats leading 10-6. With teamwork and tough defense from the Lady Cats they pulled the lead at halftime to 24-15. The second half the Cats dominated the boards on both ends pulling the lead out to 31-17. With the domination of having rebound position the Cats put the game away 47-24. Addie and Victoria scored double digits 24 and 13, Kacee and Brynn each had 4, and Taylor added 2. Coach Hoskinson thought the game was awesome because of the speed and aggressiveness the Indians brought to the floor. It was great to watch the girls step up and control the game and keep their minds about them. Defense really stepped up the first half shutting down the three point shooter and the inside game. The girls need to work on staying out of foul trouble. Victoria fouled out and Taylor and Addie had 4 and 3 with the others each having two.
Thursday the 14th Elkhart hosted the Holcomb Longhorns. The Lady Cats attacked the first quarter defensively causing the Longhorns to turn over the ball. The Cats led 12-4 at the end of the quarter. Along with the aggressive defense came the bad habit of fouling that hurt the momentum of the game. The Cats kept fighting and attacking the boards on both ends and maintained the lead at halftime 19-13. The Longhorns brought speed and aggressiveness to the Lady Cats challenging them in all areas of the game. The third quarter each team scored 13 points. The Cats continued to attack the boards and work together as a team to maintain the lead 32-26 at the end of the third. Foul trouble again was a factor in the third and fourth quarters for the Lady Cats; however the Cats stepped up as a team and outscored the Longhorns 14-6 in the fourth quarter winning the game 46-32. Addie led the scoring with 16, Victoria and Kacee both had double digits 12, 10 Brynn grabbed 5, Taylor added 2 and Audrey 1. The rebounding was led by Victoria and Kacee each with 9, Addie had 7, and Taylor Audrey, and Brynn each pulled down 2. Several steals from the defensive pressure credited Victoria for 5, Addie, Kacee, and Taylor each had 2 and Brynn 1. Brynn and Audrey each had one great defensive pressure causing the Longhorns to throw the ball out of bounds. Turnovers were high for a total of 28 for the game. Kacee had 9, Victoria 5, Addie, Taylor, and Brynn each with 4, and Audrey 1. Fouls were a hurting factor also. Taylor fouled out, Victoria, Audrey, and Addie each 4, Brynn and Kacee 3. Inspite of the turnovers and fouls the Lady Cats didn’t give up and played hard until the ending buzzard.
Then on the 18th the Lady Cats traveled to Stanton County. The Lady Cats came out aggressive and played tough defense taking the first half 30-6. The girls worked on mentally taking care of the ball and playing defense with their feet and not their hands. The final score was 52-11. The girls did a better job about staying out of foul trouble over all. Victoria and Addie each had 16, Kacee 12, Brynn respectively 6, and Bianca Ramirez added 2. The Lady Cats are now 11-0. They play Satanta the 25th in Elkhart at 5:00.
