Read! Read! Read!

We celebrated Dr. Seuss’ 107th anniversary of his birthday the week of March 7-11.  A description of one of Dr. Seuss’ characters was read on the intercom each morning.  Students would guess the character and one winner from each class was drawn each day.  The winners received a free paperback book.   In library classes, we talked about Dr. Seuss’ life with all the students and read aloud some of his shorter stories. All students received a Green Eggs and Ham bookmark.  Now everyone wants to check out a Dr. Seuss book!
The Elementary Media Center also plans to celebrate reading with several activities and contests during National Library Week in April. Reading is so important; please encourage your child to read!
Our library skills classes are going well.  First grade are getting comfortable in the library and becoming independent users.  We are learning the difference between Fiction and Nonfiction. The second graders are being introduced to basic reference books such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, and almanacs.  After interventions are finished, the third graders will be working finding answers in the encyclopedia, and the fourth graders will be talking about different genres in literature.
The Elementary Media Center has checked out 12,105 books so far this year!  READ! READ! READ!

Also during 21st Century program, the 2nd grade students have homework and enrichment time in the library after school.
