Elkhart Wrestlers Finish Strong
Coach Koonce
February 23, 2009
Elkhart wrestling had a great ending to this year’s season. Ten young men finished the season strong at the regional wrestling tournament in Ellis, Kansas.
Wrestling is an intensive sport, requiring dedication, stamina,
strength, and intelligence. Due to the intensity of practices, the
difficulty of weight management, or frustration with personal
performance, only ten athletes made it all the way through the
Elkhart wrestling season. The average lay-person doesn’t realize
how demanding wrestling is until they are introduced to the sport
and this was a huge commitment for these young athletes.
Of the ten team members, three managed to earn a placing at the
regional tournament. Seph I., a freshman, won 7th place, Daniel M.,
a sophomore, won 5th place, and Jonathan O., a sophomore, won 5th
place. The fifth place winners were only one match away from
qualifying for the state tournament. Others competing at regional’s
were Garrett B., Terry L., Noah B., and Cody O.. Finishing the
season were Tyler S. who was unable to attend the regional
tournament, Travis . and Brian N. who didn’t wrestle due to
injuries.
These athletes all deserve a pat on the back for their hard work and dedication to a great sport. My hat is off to you and it has been an honor to be able to coach such a great group of young men.
