It's ELECTRIC!

4th Grade is Electrified

by Erika Parker

February 01, 2008

The last few weeks the 4th grade students have been learning what electricity is, where it comes from and how to create simple and parallel circuits.  They read about these topics on the internet and completed a webquest.  Students became safety experts on electricity through their studies.  Following the safety lesson, students learned how to create simple and parallel circuits.

Sydney, Shelby, Rebecca and Kirsten put their heads together to create simple and parallel circuits

They got to practice interactively on the internet.  Once students had completed the interactive site they were given hands on practice with the real thing.  Students worked with partners to create their own circuits.  Their enthusiasm was phenomenal.  Students were so involved in what they were doing that all but 1 wanted to stay inside during recess to continue making circuits and see how many lights they could light up at once.  Their teacher was extremely impressed with how they worked together as they became problem solvers.
